How to use a 3D scanner to create custom insoles
Published: 2026-04-22 · 5 min read
If your clinic already has a 3D scanner, you don't need new hardware to start generating custom insoles. The digital workflow adapts to your scanner via standard STL files.
What you need
- A 3D scanner that can export STL
- An active ELISA account
- Scan resolution between 0.5 and 1.0 mm
- Internet access to upload the file
Capture best practices
Keep the foot in a neutral, fully supported position. Capture the entire sole including heel edges and metatarsal heads. Avoid motion during scanning and review the resulting mesh before exporting.
